Description:
Boasting an acoustically balanced wooden enclosure and an enhanced front-firing 3-inch speaker, the Sangean WR-2 tabletop radio offers the sound and features of a living room system in a cabinet that fits conveniently in a bedroom, kitchen, or garage. Any discussion of the WR-2 begins with its white wooden housing, which is rich in both appearance and tone. The cabinet's front surface features the speaker on the left side, a series of intuitively placed control buttons toward the bottom, and a generously sized LCD display in the middle with three brightness levels. More importantly, the cabinet teams with the 7-watt amplifier and the acoustic bass compensation system to add warmth and depth to the audio. Complementing the housing is Sangean's advanced RF/IF electronic circuitry, which picks up distant AM and FM stations and reproduces them with unmatched clarity, making music and even talk programs come alive. Even though the WR-2 is advertised as an AM/FM radio, it offers much more than a standard digital tuner, including a Radio Data System (RDS) that displays short text messages on applicable FM stations, along with support for the Enhanced Other Network (EON) and its traffic information (available in certain regions). And unlike most tabletop radios, the WR-2 lets listeners adjust the treble and bass levels via the variable volume control. In its default mode, the rotary volume knob displays the volume level from 1 to 60. Tap it once, however, and it turns into a full-range treble control, and two taps creates a full-range bass control. Additional features include a clock with an alarm (radio or buzzer), an auxiliary input jack for connecting such devices as an iPod or MP3 player (both of which sound great through the speaker), a recording output jack, 10 memory presets that help you quickly find your favorite stations, and a full-featured infrared remote control. A final bonus stems from the power backup function, which plays the radio for six minutes during a power failure (ideal for emergencies) and retains the memory preset and clock values for about an hour. The WR-2 measures roughly 9.5 by 4.5 by 6 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 5.5 pounds. What's in the Box WR-2 tabletop radio, detachable power cord, infrared remote control, user's manual.

Reviews:

starsGood radio, but not for my bedside.
I had read all the reviews and decided to buy one of these for my dad (in silver). He absolutely loves it, but it is true that he looks at another clock at night for the time. He turns the backlight off on this clock.

I decided to get one for myself (white), and when it arrived I was stoked. It sounds fantastic, it's of a really good quality, etc. Too bad I can't sleep with it in my bedroom! The reviews complaining about the backlight are dead-on. The lowest-level backlight keeps me awake at night and casts an eerie light on the room (imagine going to bed with your computer monitor on). The mid-level backlight is bright enough to wake me up before the radio sound does.

And this brings me to my only other complaint: When you wake up to the radio, you cannot see the time. If you're the type who wants to lay in bed and listen to the news for a few minutes, you had better hope they tell you what time it is.

This is an awesome radio, but I'm considering selling it (too late to return it at this point). Unless I buy myself another clock to look at in the dark, I simply won't get any sleep.

starsSolution to a problem!
We live in a rather out of order zone for the FM reception and unfortunately, this has included our easy-listening station favorite of FM. I wish that I have had a reimbursement for every radio of FM we have only bought in order to find the defective reception much and full one of static electricity. Sangean WR-2 has resolved our problem - the reception is large that, tone is superb. Worthy bond every penny.

starsSangean WR-2 Rating
Recently I had to "give up" on a 35 year old KLH radio that was magnificent. After looking at several products, I purchased the WR-2 Sangean. Very compact, very clean lines, outstanding sound for a radio of this size - and it can be accessed either "manually" or by remote. It's pick-up of remote FM stations is as good as I've found in our location. A very, very nice radio especially or the modest price.

starsNight-time companion
Product of well constructed quality. Easy to use the characteristics. I appreciate particularly the grip handle of the volume that gives the regular and precise control. The healthy quality is much pleasant one. Disapointed rather in the reception than to nightime, but improves that mine others domestic radios. I will not in the first place call mine sopportato after this radio, but I suggest it. Satisfied value much good and sink with the purchase.

starsBest Radio
This was in fact the BEST radio ever....sound is excellent, convenience can't compare and a remote!! My husband is very finicky and this was one of the BEST products...highly recommend.

starsGreat sound, beautiful design, a few flaws
My old alarm clock radio recently bit the dust, so I started a search for an upgrade. I initially looked at the Bose, but stumbled upon Sangean radios. I usually listen to NPR and jazz in the evening, and the Sangean seemed to fit the bill. Plus, I really like the design. And the price. Amazon got it to me in 3 days with free shipping, and I haven't been disappointed with the radio's performance. It has great sound, and the remote control is great for the other side of the bed (when you don't want to reach over your partner to turn it off).

A couple of things to consider, however. The backlight on the readout is adjustable, but the lowest setting is a bit bright for a dark room. Fortunately, the brightness control is right on the front. I just turn off the backlight before drifting off to sleep. The backlight also has separate setting for when the radio is "off" and "on." Another thing. The radio does not display the time when it is on. This is so broadcast digital data can display while playing (e.g., for stations with data broadcasting, the display scrolls the name of the station, title of the song, etc.). It would be nice to see the time when you wake up (and after you hit snooze a few times), but it's not a big deal. Just touch the "display" button on the front, and the radio switches to display the time. We also have an analog clock on the opposite bedside table. And yes, there is a snooze function (5 min.), although the product info doesn't mention it. You activate it by touching any of the buttons on the front. Sangean has also thoughtfully designed the alarm volume to gradually increase as it comes on, so you aren't jolted awake.

All said, I would recommend this radio. It looks great and performs well. For the price, I'd say it's a great buy.

starsbest radio I've found -- forget "HD radio" for now
After being disappointed with my HD radio experimentations, I decided on this white Sangean -- my decision being based largely on the customer reviews here. I'm very pleased: sound as good as "HD" as far as I'm concerned. I can't believe people buy radios like that flimsy Boston Acoustics Receptor thing.

I use the the WR-2 in the bedroom, where the adjustable brightness is ideal. Overall, well built, great sound, large display, handy remote. Solid. What else do you need? The white model is very sharp.

starsgreat radio
Initially I have bought black and I loved it soo a lot that has gone to buy white man. I have connected from orifice aus. to mac miniums and the small wall has mounted 19"lcd. The sembr large and they can more listen to the radio of the Internet to the night surf the fotoricettore with a healthy interface classy. The color and the measure white men (I have collected into a pile it on the advanced part) moreover have bound together perfectly mac miniums so as to they are not frightened. All in all great radio with the good sound for one is one small room of the base.

starsNICE...Super Satisified
Wr2 white man just sound like black or the walnut. The high quality and the craftmanship, cannot ask more. It loves the RDS and the wireless characteristic of the text. The varnish is polishes excellent also. The connettività to all the audio player is one breeze. It loves the small design and the room-agitation of the lol healthy from therefore small package.

starsI Like White . . .
But was hesitant ordering a white WR-2 when the classic wood grain version had been around longer with so many satisfied owners. Reading one reviewer's post that the cabinet is not solid wood (instead wood veneer over particleboard) boosted my confidence but I still feared the possibility of ending up with a WR-2 with a white but cheesy finish. Buying things over the internet without touching and handling in person can be risky. Having recently unboxed my new WHITE WR-2, I am writing to say I am overwhelmingly pleased with my decision; you couldn't pay me to take the wood grain cabinet now. You would never know the cabinet is wood other than the solid weight and feel of the radio; the finish appears to be a high grade white plastic (presumably with wood underneath). Absolutely Beautiful!

Originally I was shopping for the CC radio (made popular by advertising on Art Bell's program) but after reading reviews that identified problems with the display and memory buttons decided to review all radios I was able to find online (there are hundreds) and pick the best to meet my needs. I chose the WR-2 because it is fairly unique not having any buttons or knobs on the top or sides and advertised as having decent AM reception (I mostly use my radio bedside and listen for about an hour as I fall asleep at night and only rarely as an alarm clock. I will post again after I have a chance to become more critical of it's features and possible shortcomings. For now I'm still dazzled with the appearance and simple layout of controls/features that according to my extensive internet search are relatively unique to this particular handsome radio.

starsNice Purchase
Great sound in one small scato it. Easy to use. Reception much good one of, with use of the antenna. Like input "the AUS." easy for player MP3. Solid tact.

starsWarm Speaker Sound and Great AM
That is one clock radio many supplichevole with the digital reading them that it gives the name of the song, the listened to artist and other information to you while. Mono the sonorous loudspeaker is warm and in full load. The radio is attractive, solid and well-built, revealing nothing little expensive or plastic-cargo. It is much bond. The greater part of the FM stations comes in fort. But Duro-$$$-OTTENGA the stations of FM as 89,3 from Pasadena (alive 40 miles via in Torrance) demands that I move the FM antenna, but this is not a great transaction, hardly a nitpick. The greater part of the listeners will love the WR-2. But if you are a buff wireless like are and I enjoy the exceptional reception FM of Grundig S350, the models of Kaito 1101 and 1103 (call Degen to you in China), then are frightened that the WR-2 will disappoint. For being right to the WR-2, the radio more expensive than Bose suffers the same problem from the mediocre reception of FM. An other important point: Since this radio has a remote control, works large in your office of the calculating. You can maintain to the WR-2 six feet or therefore via your calculating and avoid the interference while supplied the stations and the volume of cavicchio with yours an external resumption. Written Of The Starter shaft: It is made sure to ignite the switch of the external antenna in the posterior part of the Sangean. It improves the near reception ten times.
