Amazon.com Sleeping Bag Guide Sleep Well: Finding the Right Sleeping Bag Sleeping bag technology has come a long way from the days of cowboy bedrolls. These days, there are a number of high-tech materials and designs available to keep you warm during the coldest outings. Here's a short list of things to keep in mind when you're shopping for a bag: Buy for Cold It's a safe bet that on at least one of your adventures, the nighttime temperature will drop unexpectedly. That's why it's smart to buy a bag that's rated for the lowest possible temperature you expect to face on your camping and backpacking trips. For summer trips, a bag rated at +35 degrees or higher will likely do the trick. If you like to camp in higher elevations in the summer, or if spring and fall outings are in your future, consider bags rated from +10 to +35. Winter adventurers should look for bags in the -10 to +10 range, while those on serious winter alpine climbs and expeditions will want a bag rated lower than -10. Keep in mind that sleeping bag manufacturers' temperature ratings only estimate the minimum temperature at which the bag will provide warmth. Take these numbers with a grain of salt, as different folks generate different amounts of heat when they sleep. If you're the type who likes to pile on the covers even on warmer nights, go for a bag that's rated ten degrees colder. The opposite is true for "warm" sleepers--a 35-degree bag will probably work for you on a 25-degree night. Goose or No Goose? The most important component of any sleeping bag is its insulating material. Modern sleeping bags offer two choices: goose down or synthetic. While both materials have advantages and disadvantages, down bags are considered superior because of their phenomenal warmth-to-weight and warmth-to-bulk ratios. While providing great insulation, down is extremely compressible and light. There's a reason why geese can fly and stay warm through the winter! Down also boasts great long-term durability and will typically retain its insulating properties after years of use. All of that said, there are many high-quality synthetic bags on the market and synthetic materials are getting better all the time. While a synthetic bag will weigh somewhat more than a down bag at an equivalent temperature rating, synthetic bags perform better when wet. (Yes, the Achilles heel of down is that it loses all insulating properties when wet.) If your trips take you to wet climates, you may want to consider a synthetic bag for this reason alone. Keep in mind, too, that many people are allergic to down--synthetic bags are non-allergenic. Finally, down is considerably more expensive than synthetic, which might tip the balance for adventurers on a budget. Bags for All Shapes Sleeping bags come in two basic shapes that reflect their intended use. Mummy-shaped bags offer the best warmth because they conform to the body's contours. This minimizes the amount of body heat the body must put out to maintain a constant temperature. Many mummy bags are offered in women-specific shapes and sizes, as well. Rectangular bags, while they do offer more room to toss and turn, are less thermally efficient because they contain more open air space. Also, they are typically heavier than mummy bags, and are generally not offered with down insulation, making them best suited for car camping or short backpacking trips. Pad Yourself No matter what kind of bag you choose, a sleeping pad is a required accessory. Not only do they provide much-needed comfort when sleeping on the ground, pads also offer crucial warmth for your backside, as the weight of your body compresses--and renders virtually useless--the sleeping bag insulation that lies beneath you.

Reviews:

starsTwo Bags That Join Together
Came quickly and we did not have any problem with this. Us this for our camping voyage of family orders, and me and my wife thought that it was very comfortable. Note just that it matches 2 bags of sleep which pass like a flash together.

starsSlumberjack Bonnie & Clyde
We tested this bag of sleep on an air space which can have something to make with faintness. It maintained very hot to us and there are belts with the top which keeps the pull knobs of the opening. It is a pain to roll the wish of support here... was a bag to store it inside.

starsComfy and warm, what else do you want?
My husband and I have used this a few times...even once in front of the fire at our house. It's comfortable, I love the flannel and it's really great for the two of us to share one sleeping bag without hoping that the two bags we brought camping will fit together.

I will say, the pillows are lame. But that's the worst part as far as I'm concerned. Although, I will say my cat loves the pillow, so I guess it depends on who you are!

starsWorked for Us.
We thought the bag was just what we wanted and expected. The flannel
is really great.

Item was as described. Shipped in stated amount of time. Nice product.

starsExcellence for Two or one
This sleeping bag is very spacious and is very warm. It can be used as either one large bag or two seperate bags if the need be. The lining is very soft and overall the bag is great. The one drawback would be that the pillows are really pretty thin. If you want a bigger pillow you can always bring your own.
The two bags/big bag is a little cumbersome so it isn't the best when hiking to a campsite but it still is a great bag.

starsJust Not Up To Snuff
I evaluate this bag of sleep 3 holds the first role because it could be well for certain, but it was not for me. After having read the positive reviews of the Amazon, and happy with his price, I was enthusiastic initially approximately with this product. My other significant A a simple bag of Slumberjack which it employed during years without problems and raised satisfaction, for example. And it seemed to be roomy and of good quality, of descriptions. However, when I opened this product, drew aside it outside on the floor of livingroom and looked at more it narrowly, several things were obvious. The fabric and the insulation are not high quality, being rather soft, and real construction was not acceptable. The seam of the sections was twisted (the model of plaid of the flannel covering was tilted), made worse by the fact that there spade by the wadding in sheet only each 10-12 ". Immediately I thought of two adults developed travelling around on top for the camping voyage of 8 day old car when we were planning and known as with me: balls and pieces of fiberfill an outward journey-outward journey. It also simply did not feel as it would maintain really hot to us to 40/30 degree, thinking with covetousness to the bottom with the simple bags that we would leave in order to appreciate the couple-friendly experiment promised by a double bag. Granted, I did not examine the factor of comfort of the temperature there on the floor of livingroom, but I was not convinced that we would not be well in the elements without additional cargo of the additional covers (no business, perhaps, if you have Hummer, but have us a carriage of station of Subaru). The pillows are miniature and flat, and will not satisfy those used with a pillow of normal bed or somebody like me with a long neck. The bag is indeed roomy, and this point which I want to accentuate like positive. It is absolutely true that a person 6' and a companion could sleep in this bag, probably with their large dog, and are reasonably adapted. However, after having embarked the bag again in the Amazon, I immediately proceeded to REI for a levelling, where I found the bag of double of eclipse of Kelty, which excells in the construction industry, materials and the sophistication of global design, at exact the same price (on sale). Slumberjack? Which Slumberjack?

starsGreat Bag
It is a large bag. My use of the abd I of wife he and like it. Large in cold and expenses survive Habiter in Wisconsin it obtains pretty cold and this bag does the work. recomend with each one even of the not-cheese heads.

starsLarge comfortable and amazing
I bought this bag of sleep being skeptic at the beginning, once that it arrived I established it. I am 6' 2 "and weighs about 240lbs., my wife am 5' 9" and weigh, spouts out which knows that they never indicate but I would guess about 120lbs. We also 1 year old, each of the 3 of we adapted one in very comfortable, also the flannel lining is the final one. I also had thought that the pillows would be kind of frayed, of my surprise they were not, and flannel striped even marks more comfortable than they are already. Strongly recommended to all.
